Earlier today, Wrestlezone.com reported on several backstage WWE plans and opinions regarding young talents that are grabbing the attention of management as the future of the company.
To no surprise, the three favorites in the eyes of management are Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, and Bad News Barrett. One source even said that it’s a race to see which of those three gets the WWE World Heavyweight Championship first. In terms of future plans and winning a World Championship, Roman Reigns is almost guaranteed that his World title win will be special and done at a future Wrestlemania.
Assuming that things stay the course, it’s very likely that could happen as soon as next year at Wrestlemania 31. As far as who he would work with, the two names that keep coming up in discussions are Brock Lesnar and his cousin, The Rock.
The Rock has reportedly expressed to Vince McMahon himself that he wants to work with Reigns before he retires. On an interesting note, the source claims that the matchup between The Rock and Roman Reigns could even be for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
The scenario that was given would see The Rock winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the 11th time before Wrestlemania and Reigns challenging for the title.
The source gave a reminder that The Rock does technically still have a rematch for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from when he lost to Cena. He was just never able to receive the title shot due to the injury that he suffered at Wrestlemania 29. The Rock’s rematch would likely happen at the Royal Rumble against whoever the Champion is at that time.
Brock Lesnar is still an option for Reigns as well, but as we previously reported, WWE is also considering other potential opponents for “The Beast Incarnate.”
Wrestlemania 31 is still so far away that a lot could happen and many ideas will come across the table, but it seems barring injury or anything big that would get Reigns off-course, he’s slated to be the babyface that Wrestlemania 31 gets built around.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
